Update on GHS Initiative

January 1, 2015

In May 2012, U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced the implementation of Hazard Communication Standard 2012 (HazCom 2012). HazCom2012 requires one standardized format for safety data sheets (SDSs) and prescribed wording and hazard symbols on labels. It brings the U.S. hazardous communication standard into alignment with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).

Elementis Specialties is taking action to ensure timely compliance with HazCom 2012. HazCom 2012 compliant SDSs and labels are currently being rolled out. By June 1, 2015 all US manufactured product SDSs and labels will be compliant with the HazCom 2012.

Between now and June, you can expect to see both old and new format SDSs and labels. After June 1, 2015 all products manufactured in the US by Elementis Specialties will ship with a HazCom 2012 / GHS compliant label. Please keep in mind, that distributors may ship products using the old labels until December 1, 2015.
